Week 2

We've had a snow day that puts us behind schedule a bit. We'll endeavor to do some justice to Frost and Pound in one class. This will be a bit of a challenge.

Please read the Pound Introductionand selected poems.

If you haven't read the Chris Beach (Cambridge Companion) chapters that address Pound and Frost, it will be very helpful to you.

For focus, I encourage you to concentrate on: - Sestina - In A Station of the Metro - Lament of the Frontier Guard - Cantico del Sole - Canto I - Mauberly (esp PDF “EP Selection page numbers” 46, 47, 49, 50, 55, 58, 59-63,)

Video close reading

We don't have a good way to recuperate a 2.5 hours class discussion. I'm going to try to model a video close reading. I'm going to invite you to do the same. Take a poem … make notes, share it on your screen … and talk about it for a few minutes.

You should be able to use the IUP Zoom Tool to do this on almost any laptop or tablet. It's a bit of a hack – the tool is used for video conferencing … but it has the ability to capture the conference. So you're going to have a conversation with yourself … about a Frost poem … and then share the video.
