Wiki-entry. All students will experiment with Wikipedia; making a significant contribution can become an optional graded item for the class. The goal is to get some first-hand insight on how Wikpedia entries are created, changed, and quality-controlled.

Homework: Get involved with Wikipedia by exploring entries you know and care about, choosing one, and then:
  1. contributing edits to a page;
  2. participating in a discussion about edits to a page, such as resolving a dispute;
  3. contributing to the "backlog" of wikipedia work;
  4. or creating a new page. You might want to review Wikipedia's "notability standards."
Document your efforts in your project area with a page called My-Wikipedia-Work. I recommend you create a user-name with Wikipedia so you can track your work. Your project -page documentation might include the responses of other Wikipedians. You can also reflect upon the process. (You may choose to make this one of your optional pieces for the portfolio; see syllabus).
